Hi, I thought it was a man too but if you look at the sequence from at 2:12-2:18, you will see that it is a statue. However, we do know that many people did not have time to fathom what was happening in time to get to the hotel for cover. Every time I see the tsunami sequences, it strikes me as how little time people had to react and how sad that there was no warning system in place.
